1 - Locking cable

2 - Retaining clip

3 - Locking cable eye pins

4 - Locking cable bracket

5 - Bolt, 10 Nm

For adjusting locking cable

Removing

NOTE:

Do not kink locking cable.

CAUTION: Observe procedures for disconnecting battery →

27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL
27 BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL for ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, CABRIOLET

Disconnect Ground (GND) wire at battery.
Remove storage compartment on drivers side →
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT for BODY INTERIOR - CABRIOLET
.
Remove steering column trim →
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT for BODY INTERIOR - CABRIOLET
.
Remove A/C system operating unit → 87 AIR CONDITIONING .

Remove ashtray in center console →
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT
- 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT for BODY INTERIOR - CABRIOLET
.
Remove cover for shift mechanism → Shift mechanism cover (from VIN 8E_6A156500), removing and installing .
Turn ignition key into driving position "ignition on".
Place selector lever in position "P".

Lift retaining clip - 2 - from interlock lever and pull locking cable - 1 - out of ignition/starter switch.

Raise retaining tab - A - and remove locking lever in direction of - arrow - from locking cable eye pins.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Route locking cable without kinks under wiring harness - arrow A - and behind instrument panel brace - arrow B -.
Turn ignition key into driving position "ignition on".

Insert locking cable - 1 - into ignition/starter switch.
Check interlock lever - 2 -.
Bring ignition/starter switch into locking position "ignition off".
Check whether selector lever is in position "P".

Slide locking cable in opposite in direction of - arrow - onto locking cable eye pins.

The retaining tab - A - must engage over locking cable

Adjust locking cable → Locking cable (from VIN 8E_6A156500), adjusting .
Observe procedures for connecting battery →
