Removal [08/2013 - ]

  1. PRECAUTION 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2013 - ] .

    NOTE:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work. Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2013 - ] .

  2. REMOVE LUGGAGE TRIM SERVICE HOLE COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 2
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL (for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column) 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2013 - ] .

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column)  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 2
  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  See step  4
  6. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  See step  5
  7. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY  See step  6
  8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 3
  9. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  10. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column)  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 8
  11. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column)  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 9
  12. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] - Step 10
  13. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the auxiliary battery connected and the power switch on (IG).
    • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the auxiliary battery connected and the power switch on (IG).
    • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
    1. Check that the power switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    4. Slide the slider to release the lock, and then disconnect the yellow airbag connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    5. Disconnect the other connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
    6. Disengage the 3 claws to remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
