Camshaft, Removing and Installing, 2.0L Engine: Removing
- The sealing surfaces of the lower cylinder head cover and on the upper cylinder head must not be reworked.
- The camshaft bearings are integrated in the cylinder head or cylinder head cover. Before removing the cylinder head cover the tension from the camshaft timing chain must be released.
- If the cylinder head cover was removed, the cap -item 20- . Refer to Figure.
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
- Replace the cylinder head cover bolt after removing.
Preliminary work may be required depending on the model. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the cam adjustment actuator. Refer to CAM ADJUSTMENT ACTUATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the ignition coils with power output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the oil separator on the cylinder head cover. Refer to OIL SEPARATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Wiring Guide Version 1:
- Disconnect the wire -arrows-.
- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Camshaft Position Sensor - G40-.
Wiring Guide Version 2:
- Remove the bolt -1-. Then press the release buttons and disconnect the line -arrows-.
- Disconnect the connector -2- on the Camshaft Position Sensor - G40-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
- Turn the crankshaft using the -T40263-, -T40314- and the 24 mm socket until the vibration damper is at "TDC".
- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.
NOTE:
Risk of Damaging the Engine by the Timing Mechanism Skipping
- The notch on the vibration damper and the marking on the lower cover for timing chain must be opposite one another -arrow-.
- The markings -1- on the camshaft chain sprockets must point upward.
TIP:
The combination of the -T40263-, - T40314- and 24 mm socket are better suited than the -T10355- for positioning the vibration damper.
NOTE:
Incorrect Handling of the Tool Increases the Risk of Destroying the Engine
- Only insert the tools in the positions shown.
- Install the -T40196- as shown.
- Turn the crankshaft two complete turns in the direction of engine rotation.
- The engine must be back at "TDC".
- Remove the -T40196-.
- Remove camshaft timing chain from camshafts. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing from Camshafts .
- Turn the intake camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the -T40271/2- out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
- Turn the exhaust camshaft with a wrench in the direction of -arrow 1-, slide the -T40271/1- out of the chain sprocket splines in the direction of -arrow 2- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.
- Remove the high pressure pump. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to Brake system vacuum pump V192, removing and installing .
