Transmission Oil Pump

Removing

Proceed as follows:

CAUTION:

Risk of transmission damage.

Do not run engine or tow vehicle with oil pan removed or without transmission fluid.

NOTE:

Observe cleanliness rules when working on transmissions. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Observe general repair notes. Refer to REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS .

-- Drain gear oil. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHANGING AND FILLING and leave Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782 below.

-- Remove left noise insulation -arrows-.

-- Remove bolts -arrow- and remove transmission oil pump cover -A- while letting gear oil remaining in cover drain into Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove transmission oil pump -1-.

Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to OIL PAN, MECHATRONIC, AND TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW , TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP COVER -A- TIGHTENING SEQUENCE

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

NOTE:

Replace transmission oil pump bolts and pump cover bolts.

Replace seal -B- and transmission oil pump cover.

-- Check whether alignment pins -C- are inserted in transmission housing.

-- Slide transmission oil pump input shaft -A- into transmission as far as stop by turning shaft slightly.

If transmission oil pump input shaft -A- is inserted correctly, dimension -a- = approximately 23 mm.

-- If there are metal shavings on sensor wheel -B-, remove shavings, but sensor wheel must not be demagnetized.

-- Remove paper seal between transmission oil pump and transmission.

-- Remove rest of paper seal and clean inside of transmission.

-- Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free from oil or grease.

-- Insert new paper seal between transmission oil pump and transmission, secure with gear oil if necessary.

-- Place transmission oil pump -1- on input shaft and tighten TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP TIGHTENING SEQUENCE

NOTE:

Different bolt versions -A or B-, observe tightening procedure TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP TIGHTENING SEQUENCE

-- Clean transmission oil pump cover sealing surface on transmission housing.

-- Position transmission oil pump cover -A- and tighten TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP COVER -A- TIGHTENING SEQUENCE

-- Top off transmission oil. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHANGING AND FILLING and check oil level TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHANGING AND FILLING .
