Transfer Case, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Tightening specifications. Refer to TRANSFER CASE OVERVIEW .
-- Make sure the alignment sleeves fit correctly between the transfer case and the transmission.
-- Grease the splines on the transfer case and each transmission Drive Axle with Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft SplinesG 000 100.
-- Be careful not to kink the lines when sliding the transfer case and the transmission together.
-- Align the transfer case bolting flange so that it is parallel to the flange/transmission. To do this, adjust the transfer case via the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support3282 spindles.
-- Push the transfer case all the way onto the transmission making sure the Drive Axle splines/transfer case engage with the output shaft/transmission.
If necessary turn the rear output flange/Driveshaft back and forth.
If the tooth position is correct and it is guided centered, the transfer case slides against the transmission as far as the stop.
Do not pull the transfer case against the transmission by the bolts otherwise the transfer case will tilt.
-- Tighten the bolts -arrows 1- and -arrows 2- to the tightening specification.
-- Lift the transfer case slightly using the Engine/Gearbox JackVAG 1383A.
-- Tighten the bolts -1 and 2- on the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support. Refer to TRANSMISSION CARRIER AND CONSOLE OVERVIEW .
-- Attach the rear Driveshaft with the new bolts to the transfer case. Refer to REAR DRIVE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Attach the front Driveshaft to the transfer case with new bolts. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the exhaust system without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .
-- Install the rear noise insulation. Refer to Body Front .
-- If the vehicle has air suspension, deactivate the lift mode. Refer to Self-Leveling Suspension .
