Oil Pan Overview
If a large amount of metal shavings or particles are found when performing engine repairs, these indicate crankshaft or rod bearings are damaged. To prevent damage, perform the following steps after completing the repair: carefully clean the oil channels and replace the oil spray jets, the oil cooler and the oil filter.
Oil quantities, viscosity classes and oil specifications . Refer to appropriate FLUID CAPACITIES TABLE Information in Maintenance.
Danger of catalytic converter damage.

- With permanent sealing ring.
-- Tighten the bolts in 3 steps as follows:
-- Tighten the bolts connecting the oil pan -1- to the cylinder block in a diagonal sequence to 5 Nm.
-- Tighten the bolts connecting the oil pan to the transmission -arrows- : For vehicles with a manual transmission, refer to ENGINE, INSTALLATION . For vehicles with an automatic transmission, refer to ENGINE, INSTALLATION .
-- Tighten the bolts connecting the oil pan -1- to the cylinder block in a diagonal sequence to 12 Nm.
