Crankshaft Seal, Removing And Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Seal Installer - CrankshaftT10122
• Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering SealT20143

Procedure

Proceed as follows:

• The transmission is removed.

-- On vehicle with manual transmission, remove dual mass flywheel DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On a vehicle with automatic transmission, remove drive plate DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Position the Extractor HooksT20143/2 behind the sealing lip on the shaft seal as shown in the illustration.

-- Support the extractor hooks Extractor HooksT20143/2 on the sealing flange and pry out the shaft seal.

-- Clean the running and sealing surface.

-- Remove oil residue on crankshaft pins.

NOTE:

Do not lubricate the sealing ring before pressing it in.

-- Slide the new shaft seal -A- over the Fitting SleeveT10122/1 onto the Guide SleeveT10122/2.

• The closed side faces toward the fitting sleeve.

-- Separate fitting sleeve and guide sleeve.

-- Place the Guide SleeveT10122/2 with the shaft seal on the crankshaft.

-- Press the shaft seal in evenly all around with the Trust PieceT10122/3 until flush.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- On vehicle with manual transmission, install dual mass flywheel, refer to DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- On a vehicle with automatic transmission, install drive plate, refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
