Ribbed Belt
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torx® Socket T60 T40087
Removing
-- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Carefully pull the engine cover -arrows- off the 4 bolts one after the other.
Vehicles Built through 05.10:
-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow-, remove the air duct hose and move it to the side.
-- Remove the front noise insulation -1-. Refer to the appropriate service information .
All vehicles:
-- Disconnect electrical connectors -2- and -3-.
-- Remove the bracket -1- and move it to the side along with the wiring harness.
Ignore -arrow-.
Risk of destroying due to reversed running direction on a used ribbed belt.
- Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or felt-tip pen for reinstallation later.
-- Turn the tensioning element clockwise using the T40087 -arrow- to release the tension on the ribbed belt.
-- Remove the ribbed belt and release the tension on the tensioning element.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.
-- Mount the ribbed belt over the pulley.
- Generator
- Idler roller
- Idler roller
- Coolant pump
- Idler roller
- Power steering pump
- A/C compressor
- Ribbed belt tensioning damper
- Vibration damper
When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is seated correctly on the pulleys.
-- Install the wiring harness bracket. Refer to UPPER OIL PAN OVERVIEW .
-- Install the air duct hose and screw-type clamps. Refer to Fig 7.
-- Start the engine and check the belt routing.
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- On a vehicle with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode. Refer to the appropriate service information .
