1. Cylinder Block
2. Cylinder Block Bearing Shell
   • With oil groove
   • Replace any worn bearing shells
   • Crankshaft bearing shells identification (classification). Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS ALLOCATION .
   • Lubricate with engine oil
3. Crankshaft
   • For assembly work, secure the engine on the Engine and Transmission Holder:VAS6095A  . Refer to ENGINE, SECURING TO ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .
   • After removing, set it aside so that the sensor wheel -item 8-  OVERVIEW - CRANKSHAFT is not rested on and becomes damaged
   • If the crankshaft is being replaced, then the bearing shells must be reallocated to the bearing cap. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS ALLOCATION .
   • Axial play, measuring. Refer to CRANKSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
   • Radial play, measuring. Refer to CRANKSHAFT, MEASURING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
   • Crankshaft dimensions. Refer to CRANKSHAFT DIMENSIONS .
4. Bearing Shell for Bearing Cap
   • Without oil groove
   • Replace any worn bearing shells
   • Crankshaft bearing shells identification (classification). Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS ALLOCATION .
   • Lubricate with engine oil
5. Bolt
   • Always replace after removing
   • Use the old bolts for radial clearance measurement
   • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to appropriate service information. .
6. Bearing Cap
   • Bearing cap 1: belt pulley side
   • Bearing caps 2, 3 and 4 also installed on the side
   • Retaining tabs for cylinder block/bearing cap bearing shells must lie above one another
   • Mark the installation position for reinstallation. Refer to appropriate service information .
7. Bolt
   • 10 Nm + 90°
   • Always replace after removing
   • Replace the sensor wheel -item 8-  OVERVIEW - CRANKSHAFT every time the bolts are loosened. Refer to SENSOR WHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
8. Sensor Wheel
   • For Engine Speed Sensor -G28-
   • Only possible to install in one position - holes are offset -
   • Replace the sensor wheel every time the bolts -item 7-  OVERVIEW - CRANKSHAFT are loosened
   • Removing and installing. Refer to SENSOR WHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 
   • After replacing, perform an "adaptation". Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Guided Functions 
9. Thrust Washers
   • For bearing 3
   • Lubricate with engine oil
10. Bolt
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to appropriate service information .
    • Always replace after removing

• Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.

-- Tighten the bolts in the steps shown in the sequence:

-- Mark the installation position of the bearing cap -1 through 5- for reinstallation.
