Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Tube VW 423
• Pulling Hook T20143

Removing 

Proceed as follows:

-- Remove selector lever cable for selector shaft lever. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .

-- Remove nut -arrow-.

-- Carefully pry selector shaft lever -A- from selector shaft.

-- Pry out shaft seal with pulling hook T20143/1.

Installing 

• Tightening specification, refer to FLANGE SHAFTS AND SHAFT SEALS ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

-- Lightly oil outer circumference of new shaft seal.

-- Fill space between sealing and dust lips -arrow- halfway with sealing grease; sealing grease.

-- Drive in shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.

• Closed side of seal -arrow- faces toward outside.

-- Position selector shaft lever on selector shaft and tighten -arrow-.

• Lever of selector shaft installs onto splines only in one position.

-- Install selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .

-- Adjust selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .
