Axle Alignment Procedure

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Steering Wheel Scales :VAS6458
NOTE:
Vehicle Must Only Be Measured In The Control Position Or Curb Weight Position. Refer to TEST PREREQUISITES !
Check Which Suspension Is Installed In The Vehicle. This Information Can Be Found On The Vehicle Data Plate. Refer to PRODUCTION CONTROL NUMBER (PR NUMBER) EXPLANATION .
Observe the Following Work Sequence!
- Drive the vehicle onto the alignment rack without tension. Move the vehicle back and forth if necessary to relieve any tension on the axle components.
- The steering wheel must be "evened out" into the center position before beginning the measuring and adjusting. Use :VAS6458 for this.
- Perform wheel run-out compensation. Refer to WHEEL RUN-OUT COMPENSATION .
- Check the maximum steering angle. Refer to MAXIMUM STEERING ANGLE, CHECKING .
- Check rear axle camber and adjust if necessary. Refer to REAR AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .
- Check rear axle toe and adjust if necessary. Refer to REAR AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING .
- Check front axle camber and adjust if necessary. Refer to FRONT AXLE CAMBER, ADJUSTING .
- Check the front axle toe and adjust if necessary. Refer to FRONT AXLE TOE, ADJUSTING .
NOTE:
If The Adjustments On The Suspension Were Changed, Then Perform A Zero Compensation On The Steering Angle Sensor -G85- With The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
If Settings Were Changed at the Front and/or Rear Axle:
- Vehicles with dynamic steering must have a dynamic steering basic setting performed. Refer to DYNAMIC STEERING BASIC SETTING
- Adjust The Headlamps. Refer to HEADLAMP, ADJUSTING .
If a Correction to the Rear Axle Alignment Was Made:
- The adaptive cruise control sensors must be adjusted on vehicles with ACC. Refer to ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC), ADJUSTING
- The lane assist systems must be calibrated on vehicles with lane assist. Refer to DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FRONT CAMERA, CALIBRATING
- The night vision system must be adjusted or calibrated on vehicles with a night vision system. Refer to INFRARED SYSTEM, CALIBRATING
- The rearview camera system must be calibrated on vehicles with a rearview camera system. Refer to REAR MIDRANGE SPEAKER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
