Center Differential Housing, Removing And Installing, Bolted Driveshaft: Installing
Replace the aluminum bolts for the center differential housing.
-- In the housing coat the gear carrier surface with transmission fluid.
-- Clean both housing separating surfaces thoroughly. They must be free of oil and grease.
-- Using Sealing Compound AMV 188 001 02 apply sealant bead -arrow 1- evenly and not too thick on the housing separating surface.
-- Place a sealing ring round each bolt hole to prevent contact corrosion -arrow 2-.
-- Make sure the spacer sleeve -2- and the shim -1- are mounted on the output shaft.
Install the gear carrier on the transmission as follows:
-- Coat both outer ring surfaces on the gear carrier slightly with transmission oil.
-- Insert the gear carrier.
- Installed position: The tab on the gear carrier -arrow A- must be inserted into the opening in the transmission cover -arrow B-.
-- Slide the center differential -2- all the way in direction of the gear carrier -1-.
-- Install the plate spring -5-, the adjusting shim(s) -4- and the pressure spring -3- in the center differential housing -6-.
- Plate spring installed position -5- : the inner diameter with it camber -arrow- faces the center differential housing -6-.
-- Position center differential housing -6- on the transmission.
-- Press the center differential housing -C- on until it makes contact with the transmission cover and hold it securely.
-- Install the bolts -A-, -B- and -arrows- and tighten them.
Not all versions have the double bolts -B-.
Aluminum bolts are installed in place of the double bolts. Refer to list-item 2- Bolt, in OVERVIEW - CENTER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING AND CENTER DIFFERENTIAL (See figure 6).
