12-Cylinder, Assembly Overview

Pump is not designed to be serviced. If a customer has reported a problem, determine cause via pressure test and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the vane pump.
NOTE:
- If fluid is low in reservoir, always check steering system for leaks.
- If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.
- Pump is delivered without oil. Therefore, hydraulic oil must be filled before installation and turned by hand. Otherwise, noises when driving or damage to pump may occur.
1 - Servotronic steering gear
2 - Pressure hose
3 - Union nut, 45 Nm
4 - Check valve
5 - Cap with dip stick
- Check fluid level → Power Steering, V8, Checking Oil Level
6 - Bolt, 9 Nm
7 - Rubber bushing
- For reservoir
8 - Reservoir
- Fill with hydraulic oil
- Installation location and replacing → Bracket/reservoir installation location
- Insert reservoir in the bracket → Insert reservoir in bracket
9 - Clamp
- Tension with hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1275 or locking pliers VAS 6199
- Always replace
10 - Bolt, 20 Nm
11 - Bracket
- For reservoir
- Installation location and replacing → Bracket/reservoir installation location
12 - Washer
13 - Return hose
- Between reservoir and hydraulic oil cooler
- Installation location on reservoir → Suction Hoses to Power Steering Pump and Reservoir, 12-Cylinder, Installation Location
14 - Hydraulic oil cooler
15 - Vane Pump
- Fill with hydraulic oil before installation
- Check ribbed belt alignment after replacing
- Checking delivery pressure → Power Steering Pump, 12-Cylinder, Checking Delivery Pressure
- Removing and installing → Power Steering Pump, 12-Cylinder, Removing and Installing
16 - Seal
- Always replace
17 - Banjo bolt, 47 Nm
18 - Extension hose
- Follow the installation of the return hose/pressure hose in the front longitudinal member area → Follow the installation of pressure hose/return hose in the front longitudinal member area
19 - Intake hose
- Between reservoir and power steering pump
- Installation location on reservoir and power steering pump → Suction Hoses to Power Steering Pump and Reservoir, 12-Cylinder, Installation Location
20 - Return hose
- Between servotronic steering gear and hydraulic oil cooler
- Follow installation of the return hose/pressure hose in front longitudinal member area → Follow the installation of pressure hose/return hose in the front longitudinal member area
- Follow assembly on front end → Securing return hose on the front end
- Follow installation on radiator → Securing suction hose on the radiator
