Right flange shaft, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Drip tray V.A.G 1306
Removing
- Transmission installed.
NOTE:
- Before lifting the vehicle on a hoist with wheels off the ground, the vehicle jack mode must be activated → 43 - Self Leveling Suspension
- Remove heat shield for right axle haft.
- Unfasten right axle shaft from transmission flange and tie up → Suspension, Wheels, Steering 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 under transmission.
- Place a chisel or spacer piece - A - under flange shaft and remove flange shaft by turning bolt - B -.
NOTE:
- If flange shaft is difficult to remove, rotate flange shaft and screw bolt into the opposite threaded hole.
- Always replace flange shaft circlip - A -.
- Clamp flange shaft in vise, using jaw protectors. Press circlip with new circlip - A - out of flanged shaft groove.
Installing
- Clean flange shaft and seal.
- If seal is damaged, it must be replaced → Right flange shaft seal, replacing .
- Half fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease G 052 128 A1 .
- Insert flange shaft by hand into splines of differential until splines lock properly into place.
- Press flange shaft in by hand or with needle bearing drift VW 295 as far as the stop.
NOTE:
- The circlip of flange shaft must engaged.
- Install right axle shaft → Suspension, Wheels, Steering 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Install axle shaft heat shields.
- Checking oil level in front final drive → Front final drive gear oil .
