Ribbed belt, removing and installing

Removing

NOTE:

Before raising the vehicle on a hoist (wheels off the ground), first activate the vehicle jack mode → 43 - Self Leveling Suspension .

For vehicles with parking/auxiliary heater:

Remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of parking heater/auxiliary heater on noise insulation.

Loosen mounting parts - 1 - and remove noise insulation.

NOTE:

Before removing toothed belt, mark the running direction with chalk or felt tip marker. A reversed turning direction can cause damage to the belt under operating conditions.
Note previously marked direction of belt rotation and be sure that it is seated correctly on pulley.

To loosen ribbed belt, turn tensioner clockwise in direction of - arrow - using 19 mm box wrench until two holes are aligned; counter hold in position using drift T10060.
Remove ribbed belt.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

NOTE:

Check alignment of ribbed belt after replacing the following components → Ribbed belt alignment, checking :
Power steering pump
Air conditioner compressor
Bracket for power steering pump and A/C compressor

Place ribbed belt over belt pulley in specified sequence.

Upper idler pulley
Crankshaft
Lower idler pulley
Power steering pump
Air conditioner compressor
Tensioning device for ribbed belt
Generator

Move ribbed belt tensioner in direction of - arrow -.
Remove mandrel T10060.
Ensure ribbed belt is seated and routed correctly.
Start engine and check belt running.
