Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Hand Vacuum Pump VAS 6213

Test Conditions:

Hose from the exhaust turbocharger over wastegate bypass regulator valve -N75- must have continuity to vacuum diaphragm.
Wastegate bypass regulator valve OK.

Work Procedure:

-- Remove the engine cover -arrows-.

-- Connect the VAS 6213 to the vacuum diaphragm -arrow-.

-- Adjust slide ring -1- on VAS 6213 to -B- position for "Pressure".

CAUTION:

The pressure must not exceed 750 mBar. If the pressure is exceeded, the vacuum diaphragm can be damaged.

-- Operate the VAS 6213 several times; watch the linkage while doing this.

The linkage -A- must move approximately 300 mbar and be at approximately 700 mBar at end position.

Actuator lift is approximately 10 mm.

NOTE:

If the pressure cannot be raised with VAS 6213 or pressure drops immediately, check VAS 6213 and connecting hoses for leaks. If no malfunction can be found: Replace vacuum diaphragm, refer to TURBOCHARGER VACUUM DIAPHRAGM .
