Rollover Protection In Body, Aligning: Procedure

WARNING:

Follow the safety precautions for the rollover protection. Refer to ROLLOVER PROTECTION .

-- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY .

-- Insert the rollover protection in the body.

-- Hand-tighten the rollover protection screws.

Measure the Rollover Protection Diagonally to the Direction Of Travel.

-- Cover the areas on the side panel to the left and right of the rollover protection with cloth tape -1 and 3-.

-- Lay the metal ruler -2- at the rear left and right side of the rollover protection as illustrated.

NOTE:

For clarity, installation position is shown without the convertible top.

-- Place the :VAS6350/2  on the metal ruler -1- as illustrated, and measure the space -a- between the sidewall and the aluminum mount -2- for the rollover protection. Refer to the Operating Instructions for using the :VAS6350/2

-- The following must be assured to prevent incorrect measurements:

-- Repeat the measurement on the opposite side of the vehicle.

-- Align the rollover protection accordingly.

Measure the Rollover Protection in the Direction of Travel.

NOTE:

In order to align the rollover protection, a reference dimension must be made on the rear lid.

-- Cover the area on the rear lid with cloth tape to protect the paint -1-.

-- Place the measuring tape on the front point -arrow- of the rear lid and mark the dimension -a-.

-- Make a plumb line from the dimension -a- straight to the front edge of the rear lid and mark the dimension -b-.

-- Mark the cutting point between the dimension -b- and the front edge of the rear lid with a felt pen -arrow-.

NOTE:

The felt pen point on the front edge of the rear lid represents the measuring point for the following measurement.

-- Make a measuring point in the same way on the opposite of the vehicle.

-- Adjust the :VAS6350/2  so that its rear edge can be used as a reference surface for measuring. Refer to the Operating Instructions.

-- Place the :VAS6350/2  straight and full surface on the rollover protection aluminum mount as illustrated.

-- Measure the distance to the measuring point (felt-tip pen mark) -arrow- on the front edge (dimension -c-).

-- Repeat the measurement on the opposite side of the vehicle.

-- Align the rollover protection accordingly.

-- If the rollover protection had to be removed due to an accident, then the bolts for the rollover protection must be replaced.

-- Tighten the rollover protection screws.

WARNING:

Make sure no one is standing near the rollover protection when reconnecting the battery. Stand at least one meter away.

-- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY .

-- ALWAYS perform an output diagnostic test under "Guided Functions" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester after repairing the rollover protection and only after all work procedures are completed (also if new rollover protection was installed).

Tightening sequence. Refer to Figure.
