Rear Suspension Components, Assembly Overview

1 - Subframe

2 - Stabilizer bar

• With vulcanized mounts
• Note different suspension versions → PR Number Explanations
• Removing and installing → Stabilizer Bar, Removing and Installing 

3 - Clamp

4 - Bolt, 25 Nm

• Tighten evenly on both sides

5 - Bolt

• 65 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace

6 - Bolt

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Rest vehicle on its wheels (standard level) before tightening

7 - Bolt, 4 Nm

8 - Air Spring Damper

• The boot must not have any pressure points. Correct them if necessary → Boot, Correcting Pressure Points .
• Note different suspension versions → PR Number Explanations .
• Removing and installing → Air Spring Damper, Removing and Installing 
• Servicing → Air Spring Damper, Servicing 

9 - Transverse Link

• Removing and installing → Transverse Link, Removing and Installing 

10 - Self-locking nut

• Always replace

11 - Bolt

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace

12 - Self-locking nut

• Always replace

13 - Cable channel

14 - Eccentric bolt

• Adjust camber after loosening → Rear Axle Camber, Adjusting
• Do not turn more than 90 right or left (that is smallest to largest possible adjustment)

15 - Wheel Bearing Housing

• Removing and installing → Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing and Installing 
• Servicing → Wheel Bearing Housing Bonded Rubber Bushing, Replacing 

16 - Eccentric washer

• Inner bore with tab

17 - Self-locking nut, 95 Nm

• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts  (except for vehicle alignment)

18 - Self-locking nut

• 75 Nm plus an additional 45 turn
• Always replace

19 - Washer

20 - Connecting link

• Connects tie rod with wheel bearing housing and trapezoidal control arm.
• Removing and installing → Coupling, Removing and Installing 

21 - Self-locking nut

• Always replace

22 - Bolt

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts 

23 - Trapezoidal Control Arm

• Removing and installing → Trapezoidal Control Arm, Removing and Installing 

24 - Bracket

• For brake line

25 - Self-locking nut

• 50 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts 

26 - Self-locking nut

• Always replace

27 - Bolt

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts 

28 - Bracket

• For brake line

29 - Bolt, self-locking, 10 Nm

• Always replace

30 - Bolt

• Always replace

31 - Self-locking nut

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts 

32 - Bolt

• Always replace

33 - Bolt

• 80 Nm plus an additional 90 turn
• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts 

34 - Coupling rod

• Connects stabilizer bar to trapezoidal control arm
• Removing and installing → Coupling Rod, Removing and Installing 

35 - Bolt, 10 Nm

36 - Left rear vehicle level control system sensor G76 and right rear vehicle level control system sensor G77

• Note that there are different versions with a "long" or "short" lever.

Only use the same version of the sensor. Do not install both versions together. 

• Only remove, install or replace as a complete unit → Rear Level Control System Sensor, Removing and Installing
• The sensor lever must face toward the inside.

37 - Self-locking nut, 10 Nm

• Always replace

38 - Eccentric bolt

• Adjust toe after loosening → Rear Axle Toe, Adjusting .
• Do not turn more than 90 right or left (that is smallest to largest possible adjustment)

39 - Tie Rod

• Removing and installing → Tie Rod, Removing and Installing 

40 - Eccentric washer

• Inner bore with tab

41 - Self-locking nut, 95 Nm

• Always replace
• Raise wheel bearing housing before tightening → Wheel Bearing Housing, Raising to Control Position to Tighten Bolts  (except for vehicle alignment)
