Oil pan, removing and installing

Removing

NOTE:

Loosen quick-release connectors - 2 - and remove rear noise insulation.

Remove cross member by removing bolts - 2 -.

NOTE:

Disregard - 1 -.

Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 underneath transmission.

CAUTION: Wear eye protection.

Remove ATF drain plug - arrow A -.
Drain ATF.

NOTE:

Observe disposal regulations.
The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no ATF in the transmission!

Remove 24 oil pan bolts in a diagonal sequence and remove oil pan.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

NOTE:

Replace gaskets.
Drain plug with sealing ring must be replaced.

Clean all 6 magnets in depressions in oil pan. Ensure that the magnets are in full contact with the oil pan.
Thoroughly clean sealing surface, removing residual gasket material completely.
Tighten oil pan bolts diagonally in several stages.
Install cross member → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .

Fill with ATF → ATF, draining and filling after repairs .

Torque specifications

Component	Nm
Drain plug to oil pan	12 * See note
Oil pan to gearbox housing	12 * See note

*Replace bolt.

*Tighten diagonally in stages.
