ATF cooler (vehicles with V8 4.2L FSI engine), removing and installing

Removing

NOTE:

Before installing a replacement transmission, clean ATF cooler and ATF lines → ATF lines and ATF cooler, cleaning . If extremely dirty ATF flows out when blowing with compressed air, ATF cooler and ATF lines must also be flushed with clean ATF.
Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions → Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions .
Carefully clean all joints and adjacent areas before disconnecting.
When installing ATF lines, insert them by hand completely into transmission or ATF cooler as far as stop and then tighten.

Remove front sound insulation by loosening fasteners - 1 -.

NOTE:

Ignore - 2, 3, 4 -.

Free up secondary air injection (AIR) air guide hose - 1 - on ATF cooler bracket.
Remove bolts - arrows - and remove ATF cooler with hoses connected.
Position Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782 below ATF cooler.

Remove bolts - 10 and 11 - and remove ATF lines - 9 and 12 - from ATF cooler - 1 -.
Clamp off coolant hoses - 14 - with hose clamps Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm dia. 3094 and remove from ATF cooler.
Remove bolts - 7 - and remove ATF cooler.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Replace O-rings - 8 and 13 - on ATF lines to ATF cooler.
Check ATF level in planetary gearing → ATF level, checking and topping off .
Check coolant level →

- 19 - ENGINE - COOLING SYSTEM for 5.2 LITER 10-CYL. 4V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): BSM
- 19 - COOLING SYSTEM for 6.0 LITER 12-CYL. 4V ENGINE MECHANICAL, ENGINE CODE(S): BSB
