VAG 1551 ((VAG 1552) Scan Tool (ST), connecting and selecting functions: Requirements
- All fuses OK per wiring diagram
- Battery positive voltage (B+) OK
- Ignition switched on or engine running (engine speed less than 3000 RPM)
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) scan tool to 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) to left of steering column, using adapter cable VAG 1551/3.
Indicated on display:
Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately.
- Additional operating information can be displayed by pressing the HELP button on VAG 1551 Scan Tool.
- The --> button is used for moving forward within program.
- Pressing PRINT button switches on the printer (indicator lamp in button comes on).
- The DTC memory cannot be erased until it has been checked.
- Switch ignition on or start engine, respectively.
- Press -1- button to select "Rapid Data Transfer" operating mode 1.

- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select "AC/Heating Electronics" address word 08.

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

After a short time A/C control head identification, coding and dealership code of VAG 1551 Scan Tool are displayed:
Control module identification: 4D0 820 043 C D2 AC fully automatic.

- The compressor manufacturer "Nippondenso" has changed its name to "Denso."
- Depending on the VAG 1551 Scan Tool card version, the 1st and 2nd digit on Scan Tool may not be displayed (e.g. 182 instead of 00182)
- Coding A/C control head -E87-. See CODE CONTROL MODULE (FUNCTION 07) .
- WSC ZZZZZ indicates the dealership code of the VAG 1551 with which the last coding was performed.
- DXX indicates the software version of the A/C control head -E87- and has no application for OBD.

Only the functions listed here can be used for AC/Heating Electronics OBD program.

If one of the following DTC messages is displayed:
- A list of the possible functions is printed out after pressing the HELP button:
- After pressing the --> button, the program of VAG 1551 returns to the starting position.
If one of the following DTC messages is displayed:
- Press the HELP button to print out list of possible causes. See Fig 9 .
- Check wiring to Data Link Connector (DLC) according to the wiring diagram. See Fig 10 and DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC), CHECKING WIRING CONNECTIONS .
If this display appears at the beginning of or during the OBD program, malfunctions have occurred and data transfer is no longer possible between VAG 1551 Scan Tool and A/C control head -E87-.
- Check wiring to DLC. See DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC), CHECKING WIRING CONNECTIONS , according to the wiring diagram.
- After repairing the possible causes of the malfunction, once again select address word 08 for "AC/Heating Electronics" and confirm entry with -Q- button.
