Front backrest, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required 

• Torque wrench V.A.G 1331

• Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095

• Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136

1 - Backrest

• Removal:

• Remove seat → Front power seats with memory, removing and installing .
• Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
• Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
• Remove side trim on sill side → Side panels on door sill side, removing and installing .

• Remove side trim on tunnel side → Tunnel-side side trim, removing and installing .
• Disconnect or loosen cable ties, loosen adhesive stripes and disconnect connectors.
• Remove screw - 6  -.
• Turn bracket - 7  - upward.

• Remove screws - 3  - (4x).
• Tip backrest - 1  - forward on seat.
• Push cushion aside and carefully disconnect wiring harness - 2  - from seat pan - 8  -.
• Remove backrest - 1  -.

• Installing: 

Installation is reverse of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

• When installing bracket - 5  -, install bolt - 6  - together with plastic washer - 4  -.
• Always replace bolts - 3  - (4x).
• Cut threads in backrest frame before installing screws - 3  - (4x).

For seats with seat memory:

• Perform a basic setting for backrest or seat after installing seat in vehicle.

• Tightening torque 20 Nm

4 - Plastic washer

5 - Support

6 - Screw

7 - Support

8 - Seat pan

1 - Cable ties (2x)

• Cut cable ties - 1  - (2x).
• Remove rubber straps - 2  - (2x).
• Disconnect connectors - 5  - (4x).
• Remove cable tie - 3  - on wiring harness.

• Remove adhesive strips on securing rails - 4  - (5x).
