Trapezoidal Link & Bushings: Installation

NOTE: Manufacturer recommends using NEW trapezoidal bolts and self-locking nuts during reassembly.
  1. Proceed as follows to tighten bolted joints 1 to 4 in Figure . Lift trapezoidal link until shock absorber has been compressed about 40-50 mm (e.g. using transmission lifter VAG 1383 A and plate VAG 1359/2).
    2. NOTE: Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. The bolted connections on the suspension links should only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on the ground.
  2. Install NEW trapezoidal bolts and self-locking nuts, but do NOT final tighten yet.
  3. Install coil spring. See COIL SPRING  .
    4. CAUTION: To reduce the risk of accident, vehicle must be standing on the ground when loosening and tightening axle shaft collar bolt.
  4. Continue installation in reverse of removal procedure. Perform final tightening of trapezoidal fasteners and axle shaft bolt with vehicle weight on the wheels.

  6. Check wheel alignment after servicing. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
