Rear SUBFRAME (AWD): Installation

When inserting subframe, make sure tank breather lines are neither damaged or pinched.

WARNING: It is essential that the locking fluid remaining in the threads in the flange shafts on the transmission and rear final drive is cleaned out after removing the drive shaft. Otherwise there is a danger that the new bolts will seize when they are screwed in and then shear if they have to be removed later. Use tap to clean threads in differential flange.

Replace the gaskets on the flanged shafts (remove backing foil and stick gaskets onto flanged shaft; make sure that the surfaces are free of grease). To prevent imbalance, the flanges on the drive shaft and on the rear final drive must be installed so that the factory markings (or the markings made on removal) are in alignment.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW subframe bolts, lower strut assembly bolts, brake caliper bolts and driveshaft bolts. Torque fasteners to specification. Bolted connections in rubber bushings and axle shaft collar bolt should only be torqued to specification once vehicle is resting on its own weight. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Adjust parking brake.
Check wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
