Instrument cluster, removing and installing: Removing

NOTE:
- Instrument cluster cannot be disassembled.
- It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel when removing the instrument cluster. For the sake of clarity, the steering wheel is not shown in the following illustrations.
- Before removing the instrument cluster, check DTC memory. See CHECK DTC MEMORY (FUNCTION 02) .
- Use the VAG 1551 or VAG1552 Scan Tool (ST) to check the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) and odometer readings and record the displayed values. See ADAPTATION (FUNCTION 10) .
- Using steering column adjustment, pull steering wheel out and down as far as it will go.
- Push in both covers (arrows) and remove from instrument cluster.
- Remove screws at right and left.
- Remove instrument cluster toward front.
- Cut cable ties on back side of instrument cluster.
- Release retaining tabs on harness connectors and disconnect connector.
