Adaptation after replacing the instrument cluster and the Engine Control Module (ECM): Notes
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2003 Audi S8, 2003 Audi A8, 2002 Audi S8, 2002 Audi A8, and 2001 Audi S8. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
If instrument cluster and engine control module are simultaneously replaced all vehicle keys must also be replaced.
The computational rule for the variable code is written into the transponder and locked during adaptation of the vehicle key. After this, these vehicle keys cannot be adapted to another immobilizer. If the instrument cluster and Engine Control Module (ECM) are both replaced together, the new immobilizer in the instrument cluster receives a different computational rule for the variable code. During adaptation, this new computational rule will be written into the Engine Control Module (ECM) and into the vehicle keys where it is also locked.
