Viscous Fan, Checking

Visual check

• Check viscous fan clutch for oil leaks. Backside of clutch housing must be clean and dry.
• Check ease of movement of fan with engine not running. It must be possible to turn fan without noticeable resistance.
• Check axial clearance.
  • Measured at outer circumference of fan
  • Clearance should not exceed approx. 15 mm (0.59 in.).
