Removal And Installation - Transmission Oil Pump

REMOVAL
- Remove the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the valve body. Refer to
VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove and DISCARD
the transmission oil pump assembly to case bolts (1).
- Remove and DISCARD
the input shaft O-ring (1) using a small pick or equivalent.
- Carefully pry the transmission oil pump assembly (1) away from the case with a small flat blade screwdriver or equivalent through the case opening.
- From the front of the transmission, remove the transmission oil pump assembly.
- Remove the B-clutch damper spring (1).
- Remove the B-piston (1) from the assembly.
- Remove the snap ring (1).
- Remove the clutches and spacers (2).
- Remove the hub (1).
- Position the transmission oil pump housing assembly (3) in a suitable press (2).
- Using (special tool #8285, Compressor, Spring) (1), press on the fingers of the piston retainer to remove tension on the split retaining ring.
- Remove the two halves of the retaining ring (1).
- Remove the A- clutch belleville spring (1).
- Remove the A-clutch piston (1).
- Remove the bolts (1) and separate the transmission oil pump housing (2) from the transmission oil pump front cover (3).
- Separate the front cover from the transmission oil pump housing and DISCARD
the oil pump housing O-ring seal (1).
- Remove the drive sprockets (2), chain and pump body as an assembly.
- Remove and DISCARD all O-rings.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
If transmission oil pump was disassembled, replace all O-rings.
- Install the drive sprockets (2), chain (1) and pump body as an assembly into the transmission oil pump housing.
- Set the pump cover (1) onto the transmission oil pump housing.NOTE:
The transmission oil pump bolts under the A-clutch must be replaced.
- Install the NEW
bolts (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Install the A-clutch piston (1) with NEW
O-ring seals.
- Install the A-clutch belleville spring (1).
- Position the transmission oil pump housing assembly (3) in a suitable arbor press (2).
- Using (special tool #8285, Compressor, Spring) (1), press down on the fingers of the piston retainer.
- Install the two retaining ring halves (1).
- Install the hub (1).
- Install the clutches and spacers (2).
- Install the snap ring (1).
- Install a NEW
B-piston seal (1).
- Install the B-piston (1).
- Install the B-clutch damper spring (1).
- Install a NEW
oil pump seal (1) and install the oil pump in the case.
- Firmly press the transmission oil pump in place by hand before drawing it in with the NEW
oil pump cover bolts (1).
Perform the following procedure to properly tighten the transmission oil pump cover bolts:
- Step 1: In order to seat the transmission oil pump cover properly, pre-tighten bolts (1), (7) and (9) to 6 N.m (53 in. lb.).
- Step 2: Working in a clockwise pattern, begin tightening the oil pump cover bolts starting at (1). Tighten to 10 N.m (89 in. lb.).
- Step 3: Working in a clockwise pattern, finish tightening the oil pump cover bolts starting at (1). Tighten an additional 90°.
- Install the NEW input shaft O-ring (1).
- Install the valve body. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
