Right Camshaft Chain TENSIONER

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the timing chain cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Install the (special tool #1860815000, Tool, Crankshaft Rotating) (1) on the front flange of the crankshaft.

  5. Remove the bolts (1a) and the caps (1b) complete with O-rings (1c) from the right cylinder head cover.

  6. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the threaded holes on the camshafts with the holes of the right cylinder head cover and then install and tighten the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1) onto the camshafts.

  7. Remove the bolts (1a) and the caps (1b) complete with O-rings (1c) from the left head cover.

  8. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the threaded holes on the camshafts with the holes of the left cylinder head cover and then install and tighten the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1) onto the camshafts.

  9. Install the (special tool #2024100000, Locking Tool, Crankshaft) (1).

  10. Using a suitable screwdriver against the tensioner arm (1a), press the piston (1b) of the tensioner to allow installation of the lock pin (1c) into the specific holes.

  11. Remove the bolts (1a) and the right chain tensioner (1b) complete with gasket (1c).

INSTALLATION 

  1. Remove all sealant residues.

  2. Using a NEW  gasket, install the right chain tensioner (1a), and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Using a suitable screwdriver against the tensioner arm (1a), press the piston (1b) of the chain tensioner, remove the lock pin (1c) and then release the chain tensioner arm.
  4. Remove the (special tool #2024100000, Locking Tool, Crankshaft).
  5. Remove the left and right cylinder head (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft).
  6. Using NEW  O-rings, install the caps and securely tighten the bolts.
  7. Remove the (special tool #1860815000, Tool, Crankshaft Rotating).
  8. Install the timing chain cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
