Left Camshaft Chain TENSIONER

REMOVAL
- Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the timing chain cover. Refer to
COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the (special tool #1860815000, Tool, Crankshaft Rotating) (1) on the front flange of the crankshaft.
- Remove the bolts (1a) the caps (1b) complete with O-rings (1c) from the right cylinder head cover.
- Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the threaded holes on the camshafts with the holes of the right head cover and then install and tighten the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1) onto the camshafts.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the caps (1b) complete with O-rings (1c) from the left cylinder head cover.
- Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the threaded holes on the camshafts with the holes of the left cylinder head cover and then install and tighten the (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft) (1) onto the camshafts.
- Install the (special tool #2024100000, Locking Tool, Crankshaft) (1).
- Using a suitable screwdriver against the tensioner arm (1a), press the piston (1b) of the tensioner to allow installation the lock pin (1c) into the specific holes.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the left tensioner (1b) complete with gasket (1c).
INSTALLATION
- Remove all sealant residues.
- Using a NEW
gasket, install the left chain tensioner (1a), and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a suitable screwdriver against the tensioner arm (1a), press the piston (1b) of the tensioner, remove the lock pin (1c) and then release the chain tensioner arm.
- Remove the (special tool #2024100000, Locking Tool, Crankshaft)
- Remove the left and right cylinder head (special tool #2024000090, Guide Pins, Camshaft).
- Using NEW O-rings, install the caps and securely tighten the bolts.
- Remove the (special tool #1860815000, Tool, Crankshaft Rotating).
- Install the timing chain cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
