Timing Chain Guide

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the timing chain cover and the oil pump drive chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the primary cam chain tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Using a suitable screw driver (1b) to release tension, remove the bolt (1a) and the primary chain guide.

  6. Remove the upper bolt (1a) and the chain tensioner pad of the timing control assembly (1b).

INSTALLATION 

  1. Remove all sealant residues.

  2. Install the chain tensioner pad of the timing control assembly (1a) and tighten the bolt (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Using a suitable screwdriver (1a) press the spring (1b) of the tensioner to make the holes (1c) line up.
  4. Install the lower bolt of the chain tensioner pad of the timing control assembly and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the primary timing chain tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Install the oil pump drive chain and the timing chain cover. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
