Primary Cam Chain

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the timing chain cover and oil pump drive chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the primary camshaft chain tensioner and guide. Refer to GUIDES, TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Remove the bolts (1a) and the left camshaft chain guide (1b).

  6. Remove the bolts (1a) and the right camshaft chain guide (1b).

  7. Remove the bolt (1a) and the idler sprocket bearing retaining flange (1b).

  8. Remove the bolt (1) from the crankshaft sprocket.

  9. Remove the primary chain, idler sprocket and crankshaft sprocket as an assembly (1).

  10. Remove the O-ring (1) from the crankshaft flange.

  11. Remove the rear idler sprocket bearing (1) from the hub.

  12. Remove the front idler sprocket bearing (1).

  13. Remove the crankshaft sprocket (1a) from the primary chain (1b).

  14. Remove the idler sprocket (1a) from the primary chain (1b).

INSTALLATION 

  1. Install the front idler sprocket bearing.
  2. Install the rear idler sprocket bearing on the hub.
  3. Install a NEW  O-ring on the crankshaft flange.
  4. Install the idler and crankshaft sprockets, complete with primary chain, on the engine.

  5. Install a NEW  bolt (1) securing the crankshaft sprocket to the crankshaft and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install the idler sprocket bearing retaining flange and tighten the NEW  bolt.

  7. Install the right camshaft chain guide (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Install the left camshaft chain guide (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install the primary camshaft chain tensioner and guide. Refer to GUIDES, TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Install the oil pump drive chain and timing chain cover. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
