Left Camshaft Chain

REMOVAL
- Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the timing chain cover and right camshaft chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the left camshaft chain tensioner and tensioner arm. Refer to
GUIDES, TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the left-handed bolt (1) securing the intake phase variator.
- Remove the left-handed bolt (2) securing the exhaust phase variator.
- Remove the phase variators (1a) along with the camshaft chain (1b).
- Remove the washer (1a) from the intake phase variator (1b).
- Remove the washer (1a) from the exhaust phase variator (1b).
INSTALLATION
- Install a NEW washer on the exhaust phase variator.
- Install a NEW washer on the intake phase variator.
- Install the phase variators together with the camshaft chain.NOTE:
Lubricate the phase variator bolts with engine oil before installation.
- Install the NEW left-handed bolt (1) to the intake phase variator and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the NEW left-handed bolt (2) to the exhaust phase variator and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the tensioner arm and left camshaft chain tensioner. Refer to GUIDES, TIMING CHAIN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the right camshaft chain, tensioner and timing chain cover. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
