Audio System - No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (Without Navigation without Premium Audio)

No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) 

NOTE: 

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

    -2. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM/FM, XM, USB, and CD).

    Is the sound OK in each mode?

    YES 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose connections at the audio-navigation unit and speaker(s).

    NO: No sound is heard in all modes

    The failure is duplicated in all modes, go to step 2.

    NO: No sound is heard in AM/FM mode

    Go to Poor AM or FM radio reception interference (without navigation) troubleshooting .

    NO: No sound is heard in USB mode

    Go to USB input sound is low or cannot be heard (without navigation) troubleshooting .

    NO: No sound is heard in CD mode

    Go to Audio disc does not play troubleshooting .

  2. Determine possible failure area (volume level, others)

    -1. Check that the volume knob is not set to the MIN level.

    Is it at the MIN level?

    YES 

    Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (audio unit, others)

    -1. Do the Self-Diagnostic Function, and use the speaker check mode .

    Did all speakers produce a tone?

    YES 

    Replace the audio unit .

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  4. Shorted wire check (SPKR lines)

    -1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    NOTE:  Eject the disc before disconnecting the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.

    Audio unit connector A (24P)

    -3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected
    Connector  Test circuit  Terminal 
    Audio unit connector A (24P) FL SPKR+ No. 15 (LT GRN)
    FL SPKR No. 16 (PNK)
    FR SPKR+ No. 19 (GRY)
    FR SPKR No. 20 (BRN)
    RL SPKR+ No. 5 (YEL)
    RL SPKR No. 6 (BRN)
    RR SPKR+ No. 9 (BLU)
    RR SPKR No. 10 (ORN)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the speaker(s).

    NO 

    The SPKR wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 5.

  5. Determine possible failure area (speaker, others) 1

    -1. Check the speaker(s) with no sound for any damage.

    Is there any damage?

    YES 

    Replace the faulty speaker(s) .

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  6. Determine possible failure area (speaker, others) 2

    -1. Test the speaker(s) .

    Is the speaker(s) OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Replace the faulty speaker(s) .

  7. Open wire check (SPKR lines)

    -1. Reconnect the front door speaker 2P connector(s) and the rear door speaker 2P connector(s) .

    -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected
    Test circuits  Test point 1:Audio unit connector A (24P)  Test point 2:Audio unit connector A (24P)  Resistance 
    FL SPKR+, FL SPKR No. 15 (LT GRN) No. 16 (PNK) About 4 '
    FR SPKR+, FR SPKR No. 19 (GRY) No. 20 (BRN) About 4 '
    RL SPKR+, RL SPKR No. 5 (YEL) No. 6 (BRN) About 4 '
    RR SPKR+, RR SPKR No. 9 (BLU) No. 10 (ORN) About 4 '

    Is the resistance OK?

    YES 

    The SPKR wires are not open. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the speaker(s).

  8. Open wire check (SPKR (Tweeter) lines)

    -1. Connect terminals A and B with jumper wires.

    Terminal A Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 15 (LT GRN)
    Terminal B Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 16 (PNK)
    Terminal A Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 19 (GRY)
    Terminal B Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 20 (BRN)

    -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition OFF mode
      Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected
      Left (Right) tweeter 2P connector: disconnected
      Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 15 and No. 16: jumped
      Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 19 and No. 20: jumped
    Test circuit FL SPKR+, FL SPKR
    Test point 1 Left tweeter 2P connector No. 1 (PNK)
    Test point 2 Left tweeter 2P connector No. 2 (LT GRN)
    Test circuit FR SPKR+, FR SPKR
    Test point 1 Right tweeter 2P connector No. 1 (BRN)
    Test point 2 Right tweeter 2P connector No. 2 (GRY)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the audio unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the tweeter.
