DTC B20A0

DTC B20A0  : HSW Temperature Sensor Open/Short

DTC Description DTC
B20A0 HSW Temperature Sensor Open/Short  

DTC (Gauge Control Module)

NOTE: 

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    -2. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.

    -3. Press the heated steering wheel button.

    -4. Wait for at least 8 seconds.

    -5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    B20A0 HSW Temperature Sensor Open/Short  

    Is DTC B20A0 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

  2. Determine possible failure area (heated steering wheel temperature sensor, others)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure .

    -3. Remove the steering wheel , and the steering wheel rear cover.

    -4. Install the steering wheel without the driver's airbag and the steering wheel rear cover.

    -5. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure .

    -6. Turn the steering wheel at 180 deg..

    -7. Disconnect the following connector.

    Steering heater 4P connector

    -8. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Heated steering wheel switch ON
    Steering heater 4P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit NTC+
    Test point 1 Steering heater 4P connector No. 3 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 0 V or 5 V ?

    0 V

    Go to step 5.

    5 V

    Go to step 3.

  3. Open wire check (NTC+ line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Heated steering wheel switch ON
    Steering heater 4P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit NTC+
    Test point 1 Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector No. 6 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 5 V?

    YES 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

    NO 

    The NTC+ wire is not open. Go to step 4.

  4. Shorted wire check (NTC+ line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Steering heater 4P connector: disconnected
    Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit NTC+
    Test point 1 Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector No. 6 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

    NO 

    Replace the heated steering wheel control unit .

  5. Heated steering wheel temperature sensor check

    -1. Do the heated steering wheel temperature sensor check .

    Is the heated steering wheel temperature sensor OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Faulty steering wheel temperature sensor, replace the steering wheel assembly .

  6. Open wire check (NTC- line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Steering heater 4P connector: disconnected
    Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit NTC-
    Test point 1 Steering heater 4P connector No. 4 (GRN)
    Test point 2 Heated steering wheel control unit 14P connector No. 7 (GRN)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the heated steering wheel control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
