SRS indicator stays on, but no DTCs are stored, or cannot be read (2017 2018 2019 2020)
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number and were properly installed. Go to:SRS Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment .
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, make sure the Battery is fully charged - Refer to: Battery Test (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020), . If the Battery voltage is low, SRS indicator may stay on.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. - Refer to: Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) .
- SRS unit with a history that has detected the collision, turns on the SRS indicator. The internal components of the SRS unit are damaged and must be replaced.
- Problem verification
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
- 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator come on for about 6 seconds and then goes off?
YES
The vehicle is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
- DTC check
- 1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC Are any SRS DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to SRS DTC troubleshooting.
NO
Go to step 3.
- Body electrical system DTC check
- 1. Check for body electrical DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC U0151 Gauge control module lost communication with SRS unit Is DTC U0151 indicated?
YES
Go to DTC U0151 troubleshooting - Refer to: DTC U0151 (2019 2020), or DTC U0151 (Gauge Control Module (Without CAN Gateway)) (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020) or DTC U0151 (Gauge Control Module (With CAN Gateway)) (2016 2017 2018) .
NO
Go to step 4.
- Fuse check 1
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following fuses.
Fuse No. E19 (10 A) Location Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Is the fuses OK?
YES
Go to step 5.
NO
Replace the fuses, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box No. E19 (10 A) fuses circuit (dashboard wire harness, floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness);
replace the faulty harness, and retest. If the problem is still present, replace the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .
- Fuse check 2
- 1. Check the following fuses.
Fuse No. D22 (15 A) Location Driver's under-dash fuse/relay box Is the fuses OK?
YES
Go to step 6.
NO
Replace the fuses, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box No. D22 (15 A) fuses circuit (dashboard wire harness); replace the dashboard wire harness, and retest. If the problem is still present, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .
- Open wire check (VB lines)
- 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
SRS unit connector A (39P) - 3. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 5. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected Test circuit VB Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 39 - Refer to: SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) . Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The VB wires are OK. Go to step 7.
NO
Open in the dashboard wire harness or faulty passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box; replace the dashboard wire harness or the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .
- Open wire check (SGND lines)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected Test circuit SGND Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 36 - Refer to: SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020) Test point 2 Body ground Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The SGND wires are OK. Replace the SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020),
NO
Open in the dashboard wire harness; check for a poor ground at G503. If the ground is OK, replace the dashboard wire harness.
