DTC U0151 (Gauge Control Module (With CAN Gateway)) (2016 2017 2018)

DTC U0151  : Gauge control module lost communication with SRS unit

U0151 Gauge control module lost communication with SRS unit  

DTC (Gauge Control Module)

NOTE: 

  1. Problem verification

    - 1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.

    - 3. Wait for at least 6 seconds.

    - 4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    U0151 Gauge control module lost communication with SRS unit  

    Is DTC U0151 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

  2. CAN gateway system DTC check

    - 1. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

    U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off  
    U0047-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch B Bus Off  
    U3000-49 CAN Gateway Internal Failure  

    Is DTC U0029-00, U0047-00, and/or U3000-49 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC (s) .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. F-CAN circuit communication check

    - 1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    GAUGE CONTROL MODULE (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 4.

    SRS UNIT (Bus A) is Not Available

    Go to step 6.

    GAUGE CONTROL MODULE and SRS UNIT are Detected

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module, the CAN gateway, and the SRS unit.

  4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Gauge control module 32P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 27 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Input Test (2016), or
    Gauge Control Module Input Test (2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  5. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L line)

    - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module 32P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Gauge control module 32P connector No. 28 - Refer to:
    Gauge Control Module Input Test (2016), or
    Gauge Control Module Input Test (2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_L wire is OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the gauge control module. Substitute a known-good gauge control module , then recheck. If DTC U0151 is not indicated the gauge control module was substituted, replace the original gauge control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_L wire between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway.

  6. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    SRS unit connector A (39P)
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 20 - Refer to:
    SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H wire is OK. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire between the SRS unit and the CAN gateway.

  7. Open wire check (F-CAN A_L line)

    - 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 21 - Refer to:
    SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016) or
    SRS Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018 2019 2020)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_L wire is OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the SRS unit. Update the SRS unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020), or SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016) , then recheck. If DTC U0151 goes away and the SRS unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If DTC U0151 goes away and the SRS unit was substituted, replace the original SRS unit - Refer to: SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2017 2018 2019 2020), or SRS Unit Removal and Installation (2014 2015 2016) .

    NO 

    Repair an open or poor connection in the F-CAN A_L wire between the SRS unit and the CAN gateway.
