DTC U017F-00 (2016 SRS Unit) (With CAN Gateway)

DTC U017E-00  : Lost Communication With the Another Side E-Pretensioner Unit

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed .
• Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures , General Troubleshooting Information , and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection - Refer to: Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection (2016), .
• Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software , and retest.

DTC (SRS)

1. Problem verification

   -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

   - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

   - 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

   U017E-00 Lost communication with the another side E-pretensioner unit

   Is DTC U017F-00 indicated?

   YES 

   The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

2. CAN gateway system DTC check

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 2. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	DTC
   U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off
   U0047-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch B Bus Off
   U3000-49 CAN Gateway Internal Failure

   Is DTC U0029-00, U0047-00, and/or U3000-49 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC(s) .

   NO 

   Go to step 3.

3. F-CAN circuit communication check

   -1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

   Which result is indicated?

   Driver's E-pretensioner unit is Not Available

   Go to step 4.

   Rght side E-pretensioner unit is Not Available

   Go to step 5.

   E-pretensioner units are Detected

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

   CAN gateway 24P connector

   Driver's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition

   Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode

   	CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
   	Driver's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
   Test point 2	Driver's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 12 - Refer to: E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

   Test point 1	CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15
   Test point 2	Driver's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 13 - Refer to: E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the driver's E-pretensioner unit. Update the driver's E-pretensioner unit if it does not have the latest software, then retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the driver's E-pretensioner unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit and the CAN gateway.

5. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

   CAN gateway 24P connector

   Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector

   - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
   	Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
   Test point 2	Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 10 - Refer to: E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

   Test point 1	CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15
   Test point 2	Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 11 - Refer to: E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016)

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CAN gateway and the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit. Update the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit if it does not have the latest software, then retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the wire between the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit and the CAN gateway.
