DLC Circuit Troubleshooting (2014 2015)

DLC Circuit Troubleshooting 

NOTE:

If you suspect the HDS or the HDS DLC cable may be the source of the communication problem, verify that they are working properly by connecting them to a known-good, like vehicle and system, and checking for communication problems.

  1. HDS communication check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Connect the HDS to the DLC.

    NOTE:

    Make sure the HDS is properly connected to the DLC.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and turn on the HDS.

    Does the HDS identify the vehicle?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Go to step 12.

  2. Determine possible failure area (PGM-FI system, other systems)

    -1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs in the PGM-FI system with the HDS.

    DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
           

    Are any Pending or Confirmed DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the VSA system, go to step 3.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the SH-AWD system, go to step 4.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the EPS system, go to step 5.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the keyless access system, go to step 6.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the DRIVING SUPPORT system, go to step 7.

    NO 

    If the HDS does not communicate with the BODY ELECTRICAL system, go to step 8.

  3. VSA system check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and watch the VSA indicator.

    Does the VSA indicator come on and go off?

    YES 

    The VSA system is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Go to the symptom troubleshooting for ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off - Refer to: VSA System Symptom Troubleshooting - ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off (2014 2015), .

  4. SH-AWD system check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and watch the SH-AWD indicator.

    Does the SH-AWD indicator come on and go off?

    YES 

    The SH-AWD system is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO

  5. EPS system check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Start the engine, and watch the EPS indicator.

    Does the EPS indicator come on and go off?

    YES 

    The EPS system is OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Go to the EPS symptom troubleshooting for EPS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored - Refer to: EPS Symptom Troubleshooting - EPS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored (2014 2015), .

  6. Keyless access system check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and watch the keyless access indicator.

    Does the keyless access indicator stay on?

    YES 

    Go to the keyless access system symptom troubleshooting information - Refer to: Keyless Access System Symptom Troubleshooting Information (2014 2015), .

    NO 

    The keyless access system is OK. Go to step 9.

  7. DRIVING SUPPORT system check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and watch the ACC indicator.

    Does the ACC indicator (amber) come on and go off?

    YES 

    Go to the symptom troubleshooting for ACC indicator does not go off. .

    NO 

    The driving support system is OK. Go to step 9.

  8. Body electrical system check

    -1. Do the gauge self-diagnostic function.

    - 2. Check the gauge display.

    Is B-CAN------ERROR indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

    NO 

    The body electrical system is OK. Go to step 9.

  9. Determine possible failure area (K LINE or P LINE, others)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Test circuit K LINE
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 7 (LT BLU)
    Test point 2 Body ground
    Test circuit P LINE
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 15 (BLU)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Go to step 10.

    NO 

    Go to step 11.

  10. Shorted wire check (K LINE, P LINE)

    -1. Continue to check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 or No. 15 and body ground, while disconnecting these parts, one at a time:

    Does continuity go away when one of the above components is disconnected?

    YES 

    Replace the part that caused an open when it was disconnected.

    NO 

    Repair a short in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 (K LINE) and the VSA modulator-control unit, the SH-AWD control unit, the EPS control unit, the audio-navigation unit, the audio unit, the front passenger's weight sensor unit, the ANC/active noise cancellation unit, the keyless access control/TPMS control unit, or the LKAS camera/control unit, the DLC terminal No. 15 (P LINE) and the keyless access control/TPMS control unit.

  11. Open wire check (K LINE, P LINE)

    -1. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A DLC (16P) No. 7 (LT BLU)
    Terminal B Body ground
    Terminal A DLC (16P) No. 15 (BLU)
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 2. Check for continuity between body ground and these connector terminals:

    K LINE 

    Connector Terminal
    VSA modulator-control unit 38P connector No. 11 (LT BLU)
    SH-AWD control unit connector A (20P) No. 6 (LT BLU)
    EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 7 (LT BLU)
    Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) (with navigation) No. 13 (LT BLU)
    Audio unit connector A (24P) (with navigation) No. 13 (LT BLU)
    Front passenger's weight sensor unit A (6P) No. 2 (LT BLU)
    ANC/active noise cancellation unit 20P connector No. 14 (LT BLU)
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P) No. 4 (LT BLU)
    LKAS camera/control unit 8P connector (with LKAS) No. 5 (LT BLU)

    P LINE 

    Connector Terminal
    Keyless access/TPMS control unit connector C (20P) No. 6 (BLU)

    Is there continuity between the body ground and each of the terminals in the chart?

    YES 

    The K LINE wire and P LINE wire are OK. Replace the part that does not communicate with the HDS.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the DLC (K LINE or P LINE wire) and the appropriate connector.

  12. Body electrical system (B-CAN) check

    -1. Do the gauge self-diagnostic function.

    - 2. Check for gauge control module DTCs without the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029 and/or U0100 indicated?

    YES 

    Do the PCM power and ground circuit troubleshooting - Refer to: PCM Power and Ground Circuit Troubleshooting (2014 2015), .

    NO 

    Go to step 13.

  13. Open wire check (+B BACK UP line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.

    - 3. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Test circuit +B BACK UP
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 16 (GRN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The +B BACK UP wire is OK. Go to step 14.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the +B BACK UP wire between DLC terminal No. 16 and the No. C16 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.

  14. Open wire check (GND line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Test circuit GND, +B BACK UP
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 4 (BRN)
    Test point 2 DLC (16P) No. 16 (GRN)

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The GND wire is OK. Go to step 15.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the GND wire between DLC terminal No. 4 and G501.

  15. Open wire check (F-CAN_H line)

    -1. Connect the HDS to the DLC.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (51P) - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the A/T System (2014 2015), or How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems, .

    - 4. Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.

    - 5. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN_H
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 6 (WHT)
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 9 (WHT)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN_H wire is OK. Go to step 16.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN_H wire between the PCM (A9) and DLC terminal No. 6.

  16. Open wire check (F-CAN_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN_L
    Test point 1 DLC (16P) No. 14 (BLK)
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (51P) No. 10 (BLK)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN_L wire is OK. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2014 2015) , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2014 2015), .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the F-CAN_L wire between the PCM (A10) and DLC terminal No. 14.
