DTC U0131: Gauge Control Module Lost Communication with EPS Control Unit (EPS message)
NOTE:
- If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A )
- If the HDS does not communicate with the EPS control unit, the EPS indicator stay on, and no EPS DTCs are stored, go tor symptom troubleshooting for EPS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored (see STEERING GEARBOX REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II)
- Wait for 6 seconds or more
- Check for DTCs with the HDS
Is DTC U0131 indicated?
YES -Go to step 5
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time Check for loose or poor connections
- Check for EPS DTCs with the HDS
Is any DTCs indicated?
YES -Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting, then recheck
NO -Go to step 6
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0)
- Disconnect the gauge control module 32P connector
- Disconnect the EPS control unit 28P connector
- Check for continuity between gauge control module 32P connector terminals No 21 and No 22 and the EPS control unit 28P connector terminals No 1 and No 15 respectivelyFig 1: Identifying Continuity Between Gauge Control Module 32P Connector Terminals No 21 And No 22 And EPS Control Unit 28P Connector Terminals No 1 And No 15

Is there continuity?
YES -Substitute a known-good EPS control unit, and recheck If the indication goes away, replace the original EPS control unit If the DTC is still present, replace the gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT )
NO -Repair an open in the wire
