No sound is heard from speaker(s) (display is normal)

NOTE:
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Turn on the audio unit and check that the volume button is not set to min level.

    Is it at the MIN level? 

    YES  - Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.

    NO  - Go to step 3.

  3. Check the NAVIGATION VOICE MUTE COMMAND and the HANDSFREELINK MUTE MODE.

    Are the NAVIGATION VOICE MUTE COMMAND and the HANDSFREELINK MUTE MODE set? 

    YES  - Cancel the NAVIGATION VOICE MUTE COMMAND by pressing the voice command and HANDSFREELINK back button, and recheck the function.

    NO  - Go to step 4.

  4. See if the problem recurs with the tuner and more than one CD.

    Does the problem recur using the tuner as well as CDs? 

    YES  - Go to step 5.

    NO  - Go to POOR AM OR FM RADIO RECEPTION OR INTERFERENCE .

  5. Check to see if the problem affects all speakers.

    Are all speakers affected? 

    YES  - Go to step  8.

    NO  - Go to step 6.

  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  7. Check the speaker(s) with the problem for damage.

    Is the speaker-(s) damaged? 

    YES  - Replace the damaged speaker(s) and recheck.

    NO  - Go to step 8.

  8. Check No. 5 (20 A) and No. 32 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

    Are the fuses OK? 

    YES  - Go to step 9.

    NO  - Replace the fuse and recheck.

  9. Remove the center console pocket (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  10. Disconnect stereo amplifier connectors A (20P) and B (14P).
  11. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  - Go to step 12.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between No. 5 (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the stereo amplifier.

  12. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  13. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 9 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  - Go to step 14.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between No. 32 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the stereo amplifier.

  14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  15. Reconnect stereo amplifier connector A (20P).
  16. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  17. Turn on the audio unit.
  18. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (14P) terminal No. 7 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  - Go to step 19.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.

  19. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (14P) terminal No. 14 and body ground.

    Is there less than 0.1 V? 

    YES  - Go to step 20.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and ground (G504). If the wire is OK inspect the ground.

  20. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 20 and body ground.

    Is there less than 0.1 V? 

    YES  - Go to step 21.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and body ground (G504). If the wire is OK inspect the ground.

  21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  22. Remove the audio-HVAC display module (see AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ), and disconnect audio unit connector A (20P),
    NOTE: Eject all the discs before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.
  23. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector B (14P).
  24. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector A (20P) and stereo amplifier connector B (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Go to step 25.

    NO  - Open the wire(s) between audio unit and stereo amplifier. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the audio unit and stereo amplifier. If the connections are OK, replace the affected shielded harness.

  25. Check for continuity between the stereo amplifier connector B (14P) according to the table terminals and the appropriate shield terminals.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  - Go to step 26.

  26. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector A (20P).
  27. Measure the resistance between the stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminals according to the table.

    Is the resistance as specified? 

    YES  - Go to step 28.

    NO  - Replace the appropriate speaker and recheck. If the speaker is OK, repair the affected wire between stereo amplifier and appropriate speaker.

  28. Check for continuity between the stereo amplifier connector A (20P) speaker circuit terminals and body ground according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Repair short to body ground between the stereo amplifier and the appropriate speaker.

    NO  - Go to step 29.

  29. Substitute a known-good stereo amplifier and retest.

    Is the problem still present? 

    YES  - Substitute a known-good audio unit and retest. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.

    NO  - Replace the original stereo amplifier (see STEREO AMPLIFIER REPLACEMENT  ).
