Fuel Gauge Test: 3.2TL

  1. Check fuse No. 9 (7.5-amp) located in driver's underdash fuse/relay box in left kick panel. Remove spare tire lid and access panel. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect 5-pin fuel pump connector.
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between fuel pump 5-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If 5-8 volts exists, go to next step. If 5-8 volts does not exist, check for open in Yellow/Blue wire between fuel pump and gauge. Check for open or poor ground in Black wire between fuel pump connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using a jumper wire with a 2-ohm resistor, connect fuel pump 5-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If fuel gauge pointer does not move toward "F" mark on gauge, replace fuel gauge. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If fuel gauge pointer moves toward "F" mark on gauge, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Gauge is operating properly. Check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST .
