Pinpoint Test E: The Odometer Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The odometer is controlled by a rolling count signal sent from the PCM to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) bus lines. The IC interprets the signal sent from the PCM and displays the current mileage on the odometer liquid crystal display (LCD). The IC sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory if the IC fails to receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM and the odometer displays ------.

- DTC B2143 (NVM Memory Failure) - sets if the IC detects a nonvolatile memory failure during its self-test sequence.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM
- IC



PINPOINT TEST E: THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVE

E1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST


- Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the PCM Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any DTCs retrieved?

Yes
REFER to the Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to E2.

E2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST


- Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the IC self-test.
- Is DTC U0100 retrieved?

Yes
Go To Pinpoint Test AK. Pinpoint Tests AK: DTC U0100

No
GO to E3.

E3 CHECK THE ODOMETER DISPLAY FOR CORRECT OPERATION


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC odometer display segment (ALL_SEG) active command. Command and monitor the odometer display.
- Do the odometer display segments illuminate?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
