Starter Motor (6/25) [2018-2020 | 2021-2022, B4204T18; B4204T47]: Description
The starter motor is used to crank and start the engine. The starter motor has electromagnetic field windings to be able to produce a high engine speed. A starter motor with electromagnetic field windings does not have a maximum speed; the speed continues to increase as long as it receives current.
The starter motor contains a solenoid that handles the greater current required to drive the starter motor when the pinion engages the gear collar. The starter motor also contains a one way clutch that allows the starter motor to drive the engine, but does not allow the engine to drive the starter motor.
