(Component Test)

This test is used to fault trace the diagnostic communication with the vehicle.

Preconditions 

• Before starting the diagnostic communication fault tracing, it is recommended to perform the test "Having problem with connecting to vehicle? Click here. " under "Connected vehicles" or "Run system checks".
• The vehicle has sufficient power.
• The vehicle is connected as shown in the picture.

• Connect the VOE (Volvo OBD to Ethernet) adapter to the vehicle and the cable to the Ethernet socket on the computer.
• Check if the LEDs in the computer's Ethernet socket light up.
• If using a USB to Ethernet adapter for vehicle communication, try to swap the Ethernet cable that is connected to the vehicle with the Ethernet cable connected to the computer's internal Ethernet socket (i. e. use the internal Ethernet socket for vehicle communication).

• Fault trace the VOE adapter for an open circuit or broken pins, or try another VOE adapter if available. Try to connect to another vehicle with the VOE adapter to figure out if there is a fault in the adapter or in the vehicle.

• Fault trace the Ethernet cable for an open circuit or try another Ethernet cable if available.
• If no fault can be detected in the VOE adapter or in the cable, check if there is any unusual wear in the computer's Ethernet output.

Instructions 

If it is not possible to communicate with the vehicle via the OBD connector, the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may be in a blocked mode.

In some cases it may be possible to restore VCM using DICE and VIDA according to the following steps:

• Connect the vehicle with VIDA using DICE.
• The DICE interface LED should be lit up.
• If the VIN number is received and the VCM works correctly, try to reset the VCM via VIDA/Software/Advanced Test. Select VCM in the list, click the buttons "Enable programming mode", "Stop programming mode" and finally "Reset".
• Verify the VCM reset by connecting the vehicle to the computer with an Ethernet cable and an VOE adapter. If this method is not successful, try to pull the fuse CF35 or do a reset of the main battery.
• If there is still no connection between the vehicle and VIDA, try swapping the original VCM with a VCM known to work from another vehicle to see if communication is possible. Do not reload the borrowed VCM.  If communication is possible with the borrowed VCM, please re-fit the original VCM and check for communication once more.
• If there is no communication with the borrowed VCM, please re-check the cable (communication) between the OBD and VCM.
• If there is still no connection between the vehicle and VIDA, please submit a TIE report with the concern area "Vehicle Report" and sub concern area "Support needed" and with function group 3975 to the local Technical Helpdesk to get guidance on how to proceed.
