When bonding windshields, only Volvo's aftermarket adhesive is approved. This adhesive is continually tested to satisfy Volvo's demands on the vehicle in the aftermarket environment.
Always keep a side window open when bonding the windshield. Otherwise the windshield can move out of position when closing a side door.
Only Cleaner-H should be used, other cleaning agents can affect adhesion.
If the windshield has been bonded with an adhesive that has not been approved by Volvo, this adhesive should be removed because there are versions of adhesive that PUR adhesive will not bond to.
Place the windshield on a stand.
Install the suction cups.
Ensure that the remaining adhesive is even and that it is properly secured, carefully check the corners where the adhesive meets the bodywork.
Do not touch the adhesive with your hands, grease can cause adhesion problems.
Clean the remaining adhesive on the body flange using Cleaner-H.
Ensure that ventilation is good.
Mask the basecoated area (where PUR adhesive is to be applied) before next layer of paint.
If any part of the windshield frame has been painted, glass primer must be applied to the body flange.
When bonding using 2-component adhesive, the windshield must be positioned within 8 minutes.
Apply adhesive to either the glass or to the body flange.
When applied, hold the glue gun according to the nozzle angle.
Ensure that the adhesive bead is continuous, a break in the adhesive bead can result in the adhesive join surface not being watertight.
Position the glass.
Check that the windshield is in the same position at both A-posts.
Place a few strips of masking tape on the glass and part way over the roof to prevent the glass from sliding down.
