Removal And Installation

REMOVAL 

NOTE:

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION 

Empty air springs according to: Diagnostics/ Components/ ECU / SUM / Diagnostic Sequences / Deflating and filling air springs and reservoir

On both sides.

ALL VEHICLES 

Remove rear shock absorber, refer to: REAR SHOCK ABSORBER

Remove the fasteners.

Remove the marked part.

Disconnect the connectors.

Remove the cable harness clips.

NOTE:

Make sure that the component is suspended in a proper way. 

Remove the screws.

Torque:  Slide rail rear brake caliper, 28Nm

Repeat the steps when removing on opposite side.

Remove the fasteners.

Remove the marked part.

On both sides.

Remove the screws.

Remove the marked part.

Torque:  Tunnel bracket, rear, to Body, 45Nm

NOTE:

Use a new seal. 

Remove the nuts.

Torque:  M8, 24Nm

This step requires the aid of another technician. 

Remove the marked detail/details.

CAUTION:

The number of connectors, cables and cable ties may vary depending on the vehicle specification. 

Disconnect the connectors.

Remove the cable harness clips.

NOTE:

The screws may be difficult to access. 

Remove the screws.

Torque:  M5, 5Nm

Disconnect the connectors.

Remove the cable harness clips.

Loosen the clips.

VEHICLES WITH FUEL FIRED BOOSTER HEATER

Loosen the clips.

Remove the screw.

Torque:  M6, 10Nm

VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION

Loosen the clips.

Undo the hoses from the connections.

Torque:  Air hose connector, to Connector with metal thread, 5Nm

Remove the clips.

Remove the marked part.

Undo the hose from the connection.

Torque:  Air hose connector, to Connector with plastic threads, 3Nm

Loosen the clips.

Undo the hose from the connection.

Torque:  Air hose connector, to Connector with plastic threads, 3Nm

Depress the locking device.

On both sides.

Remove the marked part.

Remove the fasteners.

On both sides.

  1. Torque:  Rear stabilizer bar link, to Wheel knuckle, 80Nm
  2. Torque:  Rear stabilizer bar link to stabilizer bar, 80Nm

Remove the marked part.

ALL VEHICLES

Remove the clips.

Remove the marked part.

CAUTION:

Make sure that a new nut is installed. 

Remove the nut.

Torque:Upper arm rear to subframe,

CAUTION:

Make sure that a new bolt is installed. 

NOTE:

Only tighten the nuts and bolts when the suspension is in the normal drive position. 

Remove the screw.

Refer to: Special Tool: 999 7538

CAUTION:

Place the component on a suitable underlay or support. 

Remove the marked detail/details.

On both sides.

Repeat the steps when removing on opposite side.

NOTE:

Note the position. 

Remove the screw.

Remove the marked part.

Torque:  Tie rod to subframe, 90Nm

On both sides.

VEHICLES WITHOUT AIR SUSPENSION 

Remove leafspring, refer to: LEAFSPRING

ALL VEHICLES 

Remove control arm, refer to: REAR LOWER ARM

Loosen the clips.

CAUTION:

Make sure that new bolts are installed. 

Remove the following items: 

  1. Torque:Subframe stabilizer bracket, to Body,

    • Stage 1: 50Nm 
    • Stage 2: 90 ° 
  2. Torque:Subframe rear to body,

    • Stage 1: 140Nm 
    • Stage 2: 180 °

CAUTION:

Make sure that new bolts are installed. 

NOTE:

Make sure that no components catch. 

Remove the screws.

Torque:Subframe rear to body,

Lower to suitable height.

TRANSFERRING COMPONENTS

Remove the screws.

Torque:  M6, 10Nm

On both sides.

CAUTION:

Remove the screws.

Remove the marked part.

Torque:Reinforcement plate, to Rear subframe,

On both sides.

Loosen the clip.

Remove the screws.

Torque:  M8, 24Nm

Remove the marked part.

INSTALLATION 

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

SECURING

NOTE:

Only tighten the nuts and bolts when the suspension is in the normal drive position. 

Install upper control arm, refer to: REAR UPPER ARM  

VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION 

Fill air springs according to: Diagnostics/ Components/ ECU / SUM / Diagnostic Sequences / Deflating and filling air springs and reservoir

On both sides.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the air springs are inflated before lowering the vehicle.

Follow the instructions regarding wheel angles, refer to: WHEEL ANGLES
