The bumpers are designed to conform to various legal requirements, among them pedestrian collision requirements from the European Union, effective from 2003. Thereafter various electronic equipment (systems) has been integrated in the bumpers and for this reason any bumper repair needs to meet with stricter regulations for repair.

If cracked a new component must be installed.
