It is important that the special tool is operating correctly when fault-tracing and inspecting the SRS system. A defective special tool will cause the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system to give false readings and will make fault-tracing and checking more difficult.
Ensure that the special tool is fault free by calibrating it or checking it before use.
Calibrate tools see 9511506 , see 9513022 or see 9988695 as follows:
- Use an ohmmeter to read off the resistance in the special tool
- Connect the ohmmeter test probes to the terminal pin on the special tool
- The ohmmeter must read between 1.8 and 2.5 ohms
- If the ohmmeter gives a different reading or if the tool is damaged, scrap the tool and replace it with a new one.
Check tools see 9194732 and see 8618437 by carrying out visual checks. If damaged, discard the tool and replace with a new one.
