A freewheel between the rotor shaft and the pulley allows the generator rotor shaft to rotate freely in one direction. This means that any jerking in the belt transmission is minimized.

Possible Source 

• Damaged freewheel.

Fault symptom[s] 

• The "Generator not charging" warning lamp is lit when the engine is running
• The battery discharges
• Noise from the belt transmission
• The engine judders under acceleration
• Uneven idle
• Noise from the generator (GEN).
